Domain Trouble

So like uhh... Yeah.

I was under the impression that I was free to renew the blastwave domain at anytime in the 30 days after it expired with the normal price... like it used to be. Apparently due to some new stuff happening that I was not aware of... it now costs 160 dollars.

Now I'm trying to decide if its really worth that, or if I should gamble with trying to get it back once it's released to the wild.

Erggh.

  1. Don't, as bad as it sounds you're going to abandon it.

Or you just could ask for the money, a paypal account and a thread in some forum will do the trick.

  2. He's right, ya know. How many people bought the book? Heck, you could probably set up a donation fund like many webcomics do-after say, $100 of donations you post a new comic.

  3. The comic is popular enough that someone will probably buy the name and try to sell it to you for more than you would pay now.

  4. Or you could settle for a free domain. I am not really knoledgeable about these things, but i know there are a lot of providers of free domains. Yeah, you will probably end up with an ending like
.de.vu or whatever, but you dont have to pay for it. And as far as I can remember, they don't overload your page with ads, so it's not that bad.

  5. Just put all the comics up on deviantart with a link to the previous and next in the info. It's free and if you pay the $160 you'll only have the same issue again next year.

  6. 160 is a bloody rip off if the registration is only for a year or something. I paid about $120 CND for a 10 year domain registration that included server hosting several gigs of bandwith and all the rest O.o

  7. Theres a new law or ruling or something that pushes the price up nowadays. It's not the normal registration... it's the redemption of a expired domain.

  8. I agree, sounds like simply putting it up on Deviantart would be your best bet.

  9. Hey, you could even make a seperate profile specifically for Blastwave comics if you don't want them all cluttering up your gallery.

  10. Put a couple of small, unobtrusive ads on the page and ask people to click them every now and again. Easy way for readers to help you out without the need for donations as such (though I think they are a good idea too).

  11. For the moment, why don't you make a mirror somewhere? Or at least a dump for the comics.

  12. He's dead, Jim.

Whatever you decide to do, I bet you'll regret it if you chose to forget it.

  13. Maybe you could sort of put it as a sub page in the tgsa site like www.tgsa-comic.com/blastwawe or something?

  14. You guys can stop worrying about that. You'll get to read them one way or another whatever happens. Just the domain will probably be lost.

  18. $160 is insane, if you want to have that domain, set up pay-pal - we (or I) will donate few bucks. But I do not care about the domain. I care about the strips

  19. If you decide to get the domain, set up the paypal donation box. I'm sure you would get enough money. I'd be willing to pay a few bucks to get it back. One of my favorite web comics. Do you by chance have the comics that you have in a zip or rar file and could send them to me?

  20. I will now henceforth whine about Gone being gone.

But I am more looking forward to if Lemetti will be working on other projects in the future, both on the web or in print.

  21. Why not set autorew on the domain?

  22. "(what Matt said)"

Try not to constantly whine about blastwave.
